Metaphor.

It will be the last group to do the presentations from the reading of Critical literacy. Time has began so fast until I did not realize that now it almost for my mid term break! I so excited to come home together with my families and do what I want there.
Back to our business, last group will presents about the topic “Metaphor” that presented by Farah, Fidah and Izzayati. Based from their presentation or explanations, I as the students and the viewers can adapt their skills of explanations to my life. For example, Fidah got a talent to become a teacher when her explanation really attract my attraction when she gives the full meaning if what is metaphor is all about. Metaphor plays a key role in enabling us to talk about and constructs the world and allows language users the flexibility to cope with rapidly changing circumstances. It is not merely a device occasionally employed by poet but facilities communications throughout the language.
The effects of metaphor in language on the readers and the interest and motivations which leads to the use of certain metaphors. It also included detailed analysis of the role of metaphor in the discourse associated with nuclear weapons or nukespeak.
Overall they have done their own part very good

TYPES OF EXPOSITIONS: PERSUADING THAT AND PERSUADING TO

There go for another two groups left. One of them is Anis’s Group who took place in that chapter. When it become to Anis turn, the volume will decrease automatically and do not know what happen to them.
In this chapter and based on their presentations, it focusing on characteristic features of those texts is that they attempt to justify something, to provide reasons to support some thesis. There are two types of identifies and there are analytical and hortatory expositions. The former attempt to persuade the recipient that something is true while the later try to persuade the recipients to do something.
After identified the different types of expositions, we can manage to examine how the producers of expositions employ reasoning, personality and metaphor to achieve the ends. Overall from their presentations, I quite understand from the way they delivered and conduct the presentations. If I not mistaken, they did not come out with any critical issues and forgive me if I’m wrong.

CROOKED AND FALLACIOUS THINKING

Another week with a new group of presentation. That what I like about this subject and also its lecturer itself Madam Ros. This week we have been presented by Shad’s group about the crooked and fallacious thinking.

First of all I quite blur about the topics when I cannot make it to read the topics first a day before the presentation. But with the collaborations with Shad’s group, it makes we understand very well due to the topic. This chapter is not only evidence of illogical mental processes and poor communication skills but is also a manipulative tool in the hands of speakers and writers wishing to influences and affect the judgment of the listeners and readers. Hence, the context where there is an intent to persuade someone towards particular belief or course of action and it also included a course on critical literacy itself.

Based on their presentation, we as the readers quite understand but if they come out with the critical issues, it could be nice. Thanks a lot.

STATISTICS.

There is another group that presented on the same day as Tenkujoh’s group. There are Liyana and Aqilah that presented about the Statistics. What make me funny about them is with both characteristic that almost the same. It become worst when Aqilah nervous before the presentation and need to go to toilet. Same goes to Liyana, after aqilah came in, she automatically stand up and went to the toilet.
Statistic got two meaning, first is refer the information about any phenomenon or activity expressed in numerical form such as vital statistics, college enrolment figures and opinion poll percentages. Another meaning for statistic is when it denotes the art and science of collecting, presenting, analyzing and interpreting numerical data. Liyana and Aqilah are the best pair woks ever after when both of them can work even though in hard situation. Aqilah knows her point and know how to deliver the presentation to make the viewers into their mind. From their presentation, it makes me like hit by dizzy spell when I heard about the topic itself “statistic” and it make me afraid if I need to learn the calculation or mathematics at diploma level. I don’t want to face it anymore….
They put very high effort to the presentation; instead of tend a high mark during presentation but also they tend to adapt the knowledge to their selves and also to the others. Overall, from their presentation, I totally love statistic until I can’t wait to take it for my degree level. From the reading, basically the statistic is been used in business term or business filed in order to present their profits. According to Shakespeare, just as the devil can cite Scripture for his purpose, people with vested interest may enforce figures to serve their ends. For instance, abound with misleading statistical statements and reports such as those which begin with “statistics prove that…..”.

WHAT IS THE EVIDENCE?

It was a cool Wednesday on February 4th 2009. On that day I have been present about the topic “What is the Evidence” that presented by Tunku Aimi’s group. From their presentation, I quite understand the way they delivered and conduct the lesson. This is because Tunku Aimi or well known as Tengkujoh is good in term of presentation and how to make us the viewers and the readers to understand the content from their presentation.
Personally, for this topic and based from their presentation, this sub topic is very interesting if we get into the topic. What I can conclude from the presentation is the evidence is very vital in certain cases to prove something in order to judge them either they are guilty or not. Without the evidence how we want to confirm that the people involved or not in the cases. With the evidence also it will help to make sure the truth always on the top, but not in every place. Many people said don’t be afraid because of your nervousness but be afraid if you already done a bad thing and afraid that been know by others. I still remembered when Izamuddin ask them about the case of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and how they look to the issues. Honestly from Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim got they have many barriers and also the gossip until we did not know how to believe it or not. For example the case that charge him as a gay in year 1999 but they don’t found any evidence to proof that he is really involved in the insane of orientation. For the new one until the victim came out with the “sumpah laknat” to prove that he has being “done” by Anwar. The question is, is he unconscious during that time or what? I don’t want to comment more about thethat because I don’t know the truth and afraid if it will contribute a sins to me.
Overall from their presentation, they have done their work very good and thank you for them for their efforts.

Speech & Speakers: the formation of information of individuals in discourse and genre.(Reading 3.4)

On the reading 3.4, we will discuss about the Speech & Speakers: the formation of information of individuals in discourse and genre that presented by Ulliyana and Syifaq last week. Based on their performance i can really figure out about their understanding about the subject. Syifaq like usual really interested with her performance and try very best to make us clear.
First of all I quite blurs to the topic until I get the curse from dizzy spell and almost want to cry. It is very hard to define the article and maybe during the presentation I did not pay attention at all and I need to be more alert for new coming. The topics are discussing about talking and exemplified by two types of women in the article. It also gives the definition of sub topics and perception of language user towards society. This kind of article maybe found on the newspaper and my friend said that this article is all about bias especially to the women itself. Example like “Chick” refer to the women and also same like “beach”. Why we not simply call women in police uniform just policewoman instead of policeman? Why superhero over the world just simply known as “superman”,”batman”,”iron man”? And why they use man to represent people instead of women? So all of this sort thing seems like a bias to women and women look like a weak creatures ever after.
These elements can cause by lack of information and the person who just stay at one place and not going everywhere. When the discrimination happen, it will shows to another people how weak they are in the society. So far, I still on the right track in this subject and on the way to understanding more deeply. This group also did not come out with current issues that related with our world nowadays but overall I fine with this group’s work.

**looking at Syifaq, remembering me to my good friends Liyana Mohd Rosli or more closely call her “Yana Gelud”. Miss her so much!

A sketch of a possible linguistic approach to critical literacy(Reading 3.3)

New week with new presentation and with new mood to judge the presentation. The same feeling goes to Madam Ros in order to her to judge the presentation. This time, she is very strict rather than before and it makes me afraid to her although knowing her since semester 1. The first victim who gets the comment from “American Idol” judges is Ain’s group. She never ends her presentation yet but already goes the comment and it a little bit makes their presentation disturbed.
Their topic is a sketch of a possible linguistic approach to critical literacy. In this topic, it will focus more on and the roles of a linguistic approach to literacy as making explicit the technology of written text. Then it will talk about how written language works and how you can use this knowledge to become critically literate. Basically this group already out of topic when they have starts their presentation. They did not use their own language and only depends on the text book but this is not my feelings to condemn their presentation maybe this is their misunderstood due to the issues.
Based on my understanding, this reading is all about the business world and includes the entire variety business article. It also indicates to the economy itself when we talked about business. From my opinion, this is the interesting topic and I think if they come out with current issues and attach with critical literacy elements, it will contribute a interesting debate, unfortunately they could not make it. They are lot of article about business nowadays and many of them seem like a bias. They will be at the strongest side because want to get a better and secure bail for their side and they will condemn the article seriously and can contribute quarrel in the market.
I hope with my comments did not make anybody feel uncomfortable with me but take it as the constructive criticism which is can help you to develop your self confidence and can take any comments although it really bitter to take it. Life is just a drama.

Text and Textualities.(Reading 2.3)

This is the last group from first four group presentation for the first week presentation. Nad, Madi and Syamir who presented Reading 2.3 “Text and textualities . At first I really shocked when this group did not come out with any slide of power points and it was shocked me because from my experience with Nad nad Madi they will make something very serious and perfect and for Syamir o perhaps so. Every people did their mistake and we need to learn from mistake as well as me too.
They presented this topic very detail and make a long duration of explanation rather than others group, but their effort to make sure we understand is really important. Thanks for their efforts! Although they don’t have any slides, from their efforts it makes me understood what they are try to figure out. Madi and Nad, you are the best and perhaps the other members exactly will followed your attitude.
From their presentation, I can say that texts are always socially constructed to have certain meanings. From the text or advertisement, the readers can uncover attitudes and beliefs. The process for unpacking a text is particularly useful to show how text can encourage readers to favour one set of values and meanings rather than another.
Although it quite blurs and a little information set on my mind, I still confused with the topic. I totally agree if other students said this subject is really tuff and need lots of critical thinking in order to understand the article and how to spread it to the others. Hence, this group also did not come out with any critical issues or currents issues that related to the subject. Luckily these subjects do not have any final exam…thank GOD. Other than that, their presentation good and I can see their effort to make us were in their mind.

Language, Perspective and Ideology(Reading 2.2)

Now we already in week five of semester four and it seems like yesterday we register in this college. Back to our agenda, last week, Aida and Ell already presents in a class about Language, Perspective and Ideology under Critical Literacy.
Language presents our culture and it is very vital for us to completely understand from what their presents. From my opinion, both of them really worked in a team where we can see their collaboration in order to contribute a better presentation. Their explanation very detail about language in use especially in article writing in order to attract the readers to read their writing. After rules and regulation, they need to follows the language that appropriate with the article that want to be writing and followed by rules and regulation in language. So, my presentation really connected with their topic when language need to follows the rule and regulation in every aspect.
From my opinion, they already present really good idea and their efforts to make sure we understand their topics but if they explain more detail about the language and perspective, it could be nice. It interesting when the writer use a metaphor to represent something like black for African. From my reading, I also met the writers use that type of things to represent something until contribute quarrel among the subjects.
Every people got their own weakness and also go to this group. The topics are interesting but they did not come out with any critical issues or the currents issues. If they attach the issues, it will be better for them and our understanding. As the conclusion, the language, perspective ideology is very crucial and like have they said before
 Text are the product of the operation of linguistic system
 Those who control the production (writer) of text control the operation of ideology.
 The way of using language can influence the reader.
